Define the concept of social responsibility.
Individual, Community and Environment. This balance between the rights and responsibilities of every entity. This means each and every such as governments (local and national) , corporations, organizations and individuals. Each has a “responsibility to society”.Mr. Howard Rothmann Bowen (1908 – 1989) is credited with coining the phrase “Corporate Social Responsibility”. He defined the phrase as “The obligations of businessmen to pursue those policies, to make those decisions, or to follow those lines of action which are desirable in terms of the objectives and values of our society.”
This include any entity, government, corporation, organization or individual. Each has a “responsibility to society”. Business enterprises carry on business and earn money, using the resources of society. It is obligatory for them, to be equally beneficial for the society as well. The topic involves ethics; it asks “What is morally right or wrong, in relation to the firm’s responsibilities?” Social Responsibility refers to the obligation of a business enterprise to act according to the objectives and values that are desirable in a society. Companies manage the business processes to produce an overall positive impact on society. This is different that legal responsibility in that legal responsibility may be fulfilled by compliance with the law, whereas, social responsibility involves an element of “voluntary” action for the benefit of society. Since it is voluntary in nature a firm may choose to perform or not to perform its Social responsibilities.Business enterprises are expected not to engage in actives such as the manufacturing and sales of adulterated goods. Making deceptive advertising claims. Paying taxes which are due.. Polluting the environment. Exploiting workers.Supplying quality goods, creating healthier working conditions, honestly paying taxes, preventing or installing anti-pollution devices in the factory….
