It’s amazing how when we sleep we go into a state of mind that relaxes our body. We will devote more than 50,000 hours or about 6 years of your life to dreaming. Dreaming is an unfolding sequence of perceptions, thoughts, and emotions during sleep that is experienced as a serious of real life events (Domhoff, 2005). There are different stages of sleep, and different theories of dreaming. Which one do you believe is true Sleep thinking occurs when the waves in your brain slow down. This consists of vague, bland, and thought like reflections about real life events that might of happened. During this type of mediation is when you are tossing and turning because you are anxious about something. Mentally your mind is thinking of an event over and over that it interferes with your sleep. It’s ironic how your brain waves are slowing down, but your mind constantly is stuck on this idea, that you may even come up with a solution. In contrast to sleep thinking, dreaming can go in many different unique directions. This is when you mind wonders but more as a unconscious wondering of the mind. Sigmund Freud a founder of psychoanalysis looked into the details on the meaning of the types of dreams.
Sigmund Freud believed that” sexual and aggressive instincts are the motivating forces that dictate human behavior, because these instinctual urges are so consciously unacceptable. Sexual and aggressive thoughts, feelings and wishes are pushed into the unconscious or repressed.” In that case Freud believes that the urges and wishes could than surface in our dream imagery. He was so infatuated with dreams, and the different types of theories that he wrote The Interpretation of Dreams. Freud believed that our dreams are how we “fulfill our repressed wishes”. Freud also stated that “wish fulfillment is the meaning of each and every dream, and dreams function as a sort of psychological safety value for the release of the unconscious and unacceptable urges.”
